Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Brazilian jiu jitsu is a martial art originating from the Gracie family in Brazil and uses takedowns, chokes, arm locks, leg locks, and other submissions. It is a powerful self defense tool that has exploded in popularity due to its importance in mixed martial arts promotions such as the UFC, Pride, and others. Historically, jiu jitsu has been reserved for the upper class due to the cost of training and equipment, especially the uniform called a gi.

New York City has been a hotbed of jiu jitsu, as it is home to some of the biggest and most successful BJJ gyms in the world. However Upper Manhattan has lacked any of the traction from notable jiu jitsu programs. HFFA is striving to fix that and make BJJ accessible and inclusive regardless of income or ability level. Students will learn fundamental grappling techniques for both self defense and competition. We also aim to provide every student with a gi and other training apparel to safely train consistently.
