The Bronx vs. Baltimore. A No-Gi World Champion vs. a European No-Gi Champion. Two of the most feared leg lockers in the sport, one mat, nowhere to hide.
In one corner, Bronx-born Junny Ocasio (Unity Jiu-Jitsu): 2023 IBJJF No-Gi World Champion, back-to-back Pan and European No-Gi champ, and a submission machine with 38 finishes on his record, 15 of them by inside heel hook. Once he gets to the saddle, the clock starts ticking. Junny burst onto the professional scene at Kasai, and now he’s bringing elite jiu-jitsu super cards back to New York.
In the other, Chris “Shortround” Tran (Crazy 88): 2024 IBJJF European No-Gi champion and the man who heel-hooked Italo Bonfim not once but twice in 2023, at the No-Gi Pans and again at No-Gi Worlds. He took Euro gold the hard way, heel-hooking Denis Beenen in the semis and choking out John Stapleton in the final.
Both men hunt heels. Both men own European No-Gi gold. Only one leaves Convene with his hand raised. Don’t be the one who hears about it the next day.
